Sustainable binders from nature
The wood-based panel industry needs alternatives to natural gas/petroleum-based binders, which are often harmful to health. DiP-Liglue researches and develops innovative adhesives based on lignin, a natural biopolymer.
The special feature: DiP-Liglue relies on regional biomass residues such as wheat straw and sugar beet pulp. With the help of state-of-the-art biotechnological processes, both lignin and natural cross-crosslinkers are developed from it – without any formaldehyde. Artificial intelligence optimizes the biocatalysts and enables high-performance, competitive bioprocessing sequences for regional, sustainable and biomimetic binders.
DiP-Liglue researches the use of regional biomass residues for the establishment of local value chains and strengthens Saxony-Anhalt as an innovation location for sustainable chemistry. With a market potential of over 200,000 tons of binders per year in Germany alone, the project offers significant economic opportunities – for a defossilized, sustainable chemical industry.
