DiP projects start the Open Academy 2025

DiP-SMART Agroforestry, DiP-FaiReSyst and DiP-iQ-Hemp have started the Open Academy. After an inspiring kick-off at Dinner4Zero and the creative Spring School at the Salinemuseum Halle, they are now looking forward to six months of intensive collaboration with "their" science communicators.

In a relaxed atmosphere, actors from science, civil society and practice came together to talk about sustainable ideas for the future, regional challenges and innovative solutions. For our teams, Dinner4Zero was the prelude to an intensive journey into science communication and a good opportunity to network with other structural change projects outside of DiP.

This was immediately followed by the Spring School at the Salinemuseum Halle from 24 to 27 April 2025, the official launch of the Open Academy. In an interdisciplinary four-day format, the participants developed the first creative communication formats for structural change together with prospective science communicators and coaches.

The Open Academy

The Open Academy 2025 of the Science Cube , funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, is an innovative continuing education program for science communication in the Central German mining area. The aim is to bring together research projects that actively shape structural change with prospective science communicators and to jointly develop creative communication formats.

Project pitches

In short project pitches, Dr. Julia Pöhlitz (DiP-FaiReSyst), Jan Lukas Wenzel (DiP-SMART Agroforestry) and Heinrich Rennebaum (DiP-IQ-Hemp) presented their research priorities. Ideas were then discussed at thematic tables and in moderated sessions, profiles were exchanged and concrete initial concepts were developed.

A key finding: Our research projects are successfully matched with their science communicators and coaches! Over the next six months, the teams will work together intensively to test innovative communication approaches and create new formats for the visibility of research in structural change.

With Kerstin Hoppenhaus , DiP-iQ-Hanf has an experienced science journalist and strategist at its side. In the future, DiP-SMART Agroforestry will be coached by Annette Schneider-Reinhardt , who brings extensive knowledge of the Central German mining area and experience in initiating and accompanying citizen participation processes. In the coming months, DiP-FaiReSyst will be supported by Julia Mayer , who will focus on needs-oriented and solution-oriented communication.

The crowning finale will be the presentation of the results at the SILBERSALZ Science & Media Festival in Halle (Saale) October 29 – November 2, 2025.

The DiP participants are very much looking forward to the creative cooperation. We are already very excited about the communication approaches and outputs.
