The "glass plant" of the bioeconomy model region in Saxony-Anhalt

Developing new economic prospects for the Central German mining area even before the coal phase-out

The German government recognized the great potential of the DiP model region with its outstanding research partners and ideas and therefore decided to fund 20 collaborative research projects for the period from April 2024 to December 2028. These research and development networks of regional companies, universities, research institutions and, in some cases, supra-regional partners are closely networked with each other by a coordination office at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.

For almost five years, the DiP network partners will work hand in hand on their individual ideas with the support of the DiP Coordination Office in order to develop the potential for the further development of agriculture in Saxony-Anhalt, which results from the combination of plant value chains, digitalisation and sustainability.

Ten years before the planned coal phase-out, the presentation of concrete DiP results is planned, which will be brought to market maturity. Further new project ideas and the continuation of larger research projects will follow and will be funded for up to another five years.

By 2029, the DiP network in southern Saxony-Anhalt should have established a model region for a digitalized, competitive and climate-neutral plant-based bioeconomy characterized by scientific excellence, innovative industries and attractive jobs.
