IAMO: Setting the course for Saxony-Anhalt's agriculture and rural areas

On 2 June 2026, the future of agriculture in Saxony-Anhalt will be discussed at IAMO in Halle – among other topics: Digitalisation of agriculture in Saxony-Anhalt: opportunities and challenges

Agricultural Policy Dialogue at IAMO

With a view to the state elections in September, representatives from politics, science and practice will discuss what agricultural policy course the next legislative period should set for structural change in rural areas.

  • Opening lecture: Agriculture and agricultural policy in Saxony-Anhalt. What are the major
    challenges? (Alfons Balmann)

Keynote speeches on the positions of the election programmes form the starting point for three thematic sessions as well as practical and scientifically sound panels:

A. Living Conditions, Demographic Change and Shortage of Skilled Workers in Rural Areas:
Problem Perceptions and Need for Political Action (Dr. Antje Jantsch)

B. Digitization of Agriculture in Saxony-Anhalt: Opportunities and Challenges (Dr. Franziska Appel)

C. Can a reduction in bureaucracy and more sustainable agriculture be reconciled in Saxony-Anhalt? (Prof. Thomas Herzfeld)

For DiP Saxony-Anhalt is particularly relevant: Session B
Precision farming, AI-supported harvesting processes, digital administrative procedures – a lot is technically possible. But can digitization alleviate the shortage of skilled workers, reduce bureaucratic burdens and advance sustainability goals if the last
milk churn has not yet 5G? What infrastructure and political will does Saxony-Anhalt need for this?

Further information, the complete program and the registration form can be found here. Registration is possible until 2 June.
